Gendo Giovanni, League Councilmember for Viridian, was not happy.
Therefore, prudent people and pokegirls stayed clear of him. If Gendo
was
not happy, those under him sure as hell should try to be unhappy with
him.
"What happened to the Project: Moo?" Gendo went into his copyrighted
staring-over-his-steepled-hands semi-brooding pose.
Doctor Mojo Hojo scratched his head briefly. "That's a funny question
actually."
"Tell me, Doctor, do I *look* amused?"
"No, definikely can't say vat," admitted Hojo. "Look at it zis vay,
der
psychic upgrades worked marvelously vell don't you think?"
Gendo considered having the mad scientist killed. He'd add it to his
"to do"
list later unless he changed his mind.
"She just flew away," Hojo said, adding a helpful "voom!"
"Flew away? Through four layers of armored plating and psychic restraint
fields that should have kept her immobile?"
"Ja, dat pretty much gives the situation in da nutshell," agreed Hojo.
Gendo Giovanni was *not* happy. First Tarou went "loose cannon", then
this
odd bit about Saotome's speech at that miserable little festival, now
this.
Worse, he'd have to get personally involved now with the "Moo" search.
"Hojo. You have one chance to make up for this. I think our little
friend
Tarou needs a stabilization treatment..."

Sitting at a streetside cafe, Drew scratched his Johto League Kitten
behind
the ear, noting that his Titmouse Koishi was (once again) seeking and
attacking dust bunnies with all the fervor of an Amazonchan at a fighting
contest. Kimi merely purred her contentment.
"So what did you guys think of 'the Speech'?" Drew finally asked his
"pets" - he wasn't sure about the term because sometimes it felt like
*he*
was the pet in this relationship. Especially when Kimi was involved.
"Not nyow, little harder and lowerrrr, oooooohhhhhh yeah," Kimi said.
"Ahhhhh-nata, what exactly did Saotome-san say?"
"I'm still working on that," Drew admitted. "I remember what he talked
about, that his conviction and sincerity just seemed to come across,
but I
can't seem to remember the actual words - just a few phrases."
"Look around, anata, nyah, what do you see?" Kimi advised as she roused
herself but still managed to affectionately drape herself over her
human.
Drew, ex-security and "adventurer" that he was, had noted the odd behavior
from the crowds, but true to his training and background, had stuffed
it
into a box, to examine later, to focus on the puzzle of last night.
At
Kimi's prompting, he stuffed that puzzle into a box, and opened the
box of
the crowd's behavior...
It was normal, usual, for those with pokegirl pets to show them affection
and treat them with "unprofessional" care. Tamers, after all, went
through
years of tests and training to make sure they didn't form too close
an
emotional bond with their pokegirls. Those who didn't expect to send
their
pokegirls into life-and-death situations daily could and *did* get
more
attached.
Drew snorted. Sending anyone into life or death situations was stupid.
One
reason why he never became a Tamer was combat was something else to
him, and
sending _anyone_ he worked with into a combat zone just for kicks wasn't
his
style. Never was.
Drew could see the couples (and trios, and very rare quads) of a human
and
his (or in two cases her) pets. Some though were definitely Tamers
and
entirely new to this touchy feely stuff, and their pokegirls were just
as
obvious in their uncertainty of how to respond. "Hmmm."
Kimi stretched out, her ears flicking expressively as she turned her
own
attention to the sights. "When you were in security we were a team,
hai? You
were my 'handler' and you could use my hyperattentuated senses to augment
your own, hai? We didn't operate as a slave and her master, we operated
as
equals, so desu ka?"
"Yeah," responded Drew, feeling fur brush against his other side as
Koishi
knelt nearby to see if she could figure out what the smarter pair were
talking about. "We're 'security consultants' now but I still advise
the
troops that they should listen to their pokegirls."
Kimi smiled at her pet human. It had been so nice to find someone trainable.
That his Blood Gift made him so useful in business was just one more
reason
she'd originally been attracted to him. "I don't think anyone else
remembers
the details of Saotome-san's speech either. Look though. There's an
old
saying of spreading seeds and how on hard ground they won't grow, but
if the
field is ready you can grow a crop."
Drew nodded. That was straight out of the polyglot that was the Thousand
Gods faith, though they might have versions in the One True faith or
the
Cyclic Void faith.
"The ground last night was fertile. Look around, there were mainly people
who privately felt that what Saotome-san said was true, and it coming
from a
Tamer with his accomplishments gives it more credence than for example:
Mineko and the Pussycats." Kimi liked them, but then the group was
primarily
of Kitten derivation so that was expected. Drew would tolerate them
for
short bits but complained about the lyrics being largely content-free
and
over-sugary.
Kimi's tail twitched and she considered the wisdom of having a nice
cup of
hot chocolate this morning. Though sometimes milk products left her
feeling
*so* naughty.
Recognizing *that* look, Drew consigned himself to a busy day and ordered
some hot chocolate for his Kitten and a cheese tray for Koishi. It
looked
like an early start on the trip back was not going to be on the agenda.
---------
Ryo Saeba stretched and winced. "I'm getting too old for this."
His Tomboy Alpha, Kaori, snorted in an unfeminine but complimentary fashion.
Umibozu and his Kitten Miki merely rolled their eyes at the start of
another
session between the staid and respectable "City Hunter" and his "mokkori"
Alpha.
"Hey, how about one last big adventure before we retire," suggested
Umibozu.
"The cafe is doing well, and you could retire on what you made from
that one
case."
"It would have to be something *big*," said Ryo thoughtfully. "Something
with meaning. The world is changing and we're going to have to change
with
it. Some job that is big enough that we can look back on it afterwards
and
say 'We were a part of that.'"
"How? Jobs like that don't just come up and slap you in the face," began
Umibozu.
He didn't get the chance to get any further as an Angel abruptly landed
on
his head, wrestling with a Cheshire.
"Rei-san, you can't!" Nabiki pleaded as she attempted to pin the winged
albino.
"You don't know what Chamber Of Horrors he's still got, he has to be
stopped!" Rei twisted and tried to free herself. "It was his breeding
experiments that produced me! I remember! Gendo has to be stopped."
Two humans and two pokegirls blinked as the two rolled in a wrestling
match
until the Kitten two tables down struck the Angel in the back of the
head at
the Instant Unconsciousness point.
Umibozu frowned thoughtfully, though that was only a miniscule change
on his
face. "I only know of one Gendo, and that's Giovanni."
Ryo Saeba smiled. "I think we should keep an eye on the Angel there."
--------
The kung fu Kitten's ears flicked as she overheard the conversation.
"Now,
we should visit Gendo, ne?"
Drew smiled. Every once and a while, there WAS something worth doing.
"Where
did I put the HK?"
--------
Every region in the Indigo League was slightly different.
Pallet Town, like many small agrarian towns and villages, was very tolerant
of its native pokegirls (outsiders were viewed with suspicion) and
a well
liked or useful pokegirl was "just plain folks" for the most part.
At the furthest end of things was Fight City, presided over by Keale
Lorenz,
brutal for pokegirls. There they were treated poorly by the authorities
and
never allowed to run free. One had to have a leash at the very least
on
one's pokegirl, and having them shackled or cuffed in public was more
common
than not.
In between the two extremes were all the rest, from Dogpatch and Mayberry
with their gentle approach, to Viridian.
Viridian was harsh, not quite as bad as Fight City, but still avoided
by
anyone who had a pokegirl and cared about them. Public education was
not
allowed for pokegirls. Registration was heavily regulated. Unregistered
pokegirls were likely to be to work in special chain gangs or work
camps
until their Masters could get them out. Those who passed through Viridian
told horror stories of how they'd been treated in there. Threshold
girls
were typically smuggled out by those parents who still cared about
their
child.
The term 'conservative' did not fit either Keale or Gendo as both of
them
had stated repeatedly the need for greater control than ever in the
past, so
'hardliner' was more often used.
There were actually seven cities and their surrounding areas that were
considered 'hardliner' - under the control of the political party known
as
SEELE. Fight City, Viridian, Prussian, Cobalt, Dusk, Mauve, and Amethyst.
Viridian had only recently come under SEELE control with Gendo, his
father
hadn't been quite as tough. As far as sheer nastiness to the pokegirls
under
them, it ranked third. Only Fight City and Prussian were worse. Though
in
Prussian the humans were just as oppressed and monitored.
So there were a number of Tamers and particularly pokegirls who heard
of the
opportunity to stick it to one Gendo Giovanni and smiled little smiles.
Some
would satisfy with just remaining quiet and thereby assisting in that
manner. Others would want to assist by covertly assisting. Not that
either
group were particularly into illegal activities themselves, mind you.
Which was why Nabiki got Rei back to the pokecenter with a little help
and
nobody mentioned the Angel's outburst. At least, aloud.
--------
"Trixie, we got a job," said Hans as he began checking batteries.
"What is it this time?" Trixie, the more bloodthirsty of the duo, was
hoping
for a high kill ratio this time around.
"Gendo's left his lair along with most of his elite level pokegirls,
some
escaped genetic upgrade that he was monkeying with," Hans finished
checking
batteries and looked over his other weaponry. The particle beam rifle
or the
assault rifle? Decisions decisions. "He's left some academic types
in
charge."
"So we go in and loot his secret labs, right?" Trixie smiled. Most people
assumed she was a Near Human who covered it up. Little did they know
the
truth. Some thought she was a Domina. If they knew that she was a Psi-Dyke
and merely one agent of many of the Cause they'd be quaking in their
boots.
Eventually she'd rip out and feast on the entrails of her reprogrammed
"Master" - who had no clue himself how a young seeker of LosTech had
ended
up the bloodthirsty mercenary Hans. Ask Hans any question of his past
and
he'd either come up with a dummy file or he'd get a blank expression.
The
naive fellow had once been a "seeker of truth" - now look at him.
"Yeah, we ought to be able to get some really good stuff for the Black
Market," said Hans.
Trixie merely nodded and smiled at her puppet. Soon it would be time
for
Trauma Team to "retire" and she could stay out of human society. Of
course,
not too long from now she was hoping that the human infestation would
be
dealt with.
That Trixie herself had been reprogrammed, and was not a Psi-Dyke, was
something she herself would never be able to consider.
--------
Ash stared. Ranma stared.
"...but I had Rei watching our packs," mumbled Ranma.
Misty finished going through the various pockets in Ash's recently purchased
"extra big" backpack. "Looks like you've got an extra twenty balls
here Ash.
Hmmmph. You better *not* rotate me to Storage!"
Ash twitched at the thought of how much time it would take him to do
a
Taming marathon. And how unable to function much less travel he'd be
after
he accomplished such a thing.
Kasumi looked up from her own count. "Oh my, Master Ranma has forty-seven."
Ranma twitched. "So this is it. I'm going to die."
Usagi frowned. She wanted another session. Or at least some quality
cuddle
time. It sounded like none of them were going to get much attention.
"Okay," said Ash. "We've got to order our harems, we can only have six
active."
Ranma nodded, then looked around. "Where's Ukyo?"
"Rmmmmpharmph," said a pile of blankets. A bleary looking eye peered
out of
it after much shuffling around.
"She didn't get much sleep," translated Misty, who had grown up with
three
sisters and therefore had useful skills like translating morning mumble.
This despite that she herself would only get out of bed early when
it was
absolutely necessary. "Nightmares about being caught by that Kurenai
creep."
Nabiki pulled Rei in. "Well, if you're going to order the harems, either
do
what Rei wants or rotate her to storage. She's absolutely convinced
that
Gendo Giovanni is running an illegal genetic experimentation facility
under
his Viridick base."
Ash frowned. LOTS. He had been a runt and picked on most of his life,
so he
had a natural tendency to root for the underdog (when he wasn't covering
his
own inferiority complex by acting brash), and hurting pokegirls was
one of
the things he most disliked.
Misty saw that stubborn look and grimaced. "Oh boy. Here we go again."
"'again'?" Usagi wondered, looking at her own Master just look puzzled.
"An adventure," explained Misty. "It seems to happen a lot. Where we
*should* be training, collecting gym badges, and eventually participating
in
one of the big tournaments, we instead have to fight Team Rocket and
go off
on these hare-brained adventures frequently."
"...not me..." said a voice from the blankets. Ukyo slowly poked her
head
out. "I think Ranchan and me will head over to some Wreckball tryouts
on the
coast. I'm all adventured out. I just want a regular job with regular
hours,
and maybe running my restaurant. I've spent way too many days and nights
out
in the cold and the rain and with Pixie headhunters on my tail. I've
just
lost all my pokegirls except Ranchan, and I'm *tired*."
"Oh," said Ranma. "Sorry to hear that. I wanted to see how much you
might
have in common with *my* Ucchan. Though he's a boy."
Ash finished selecting his six. "Okay, I'm gonna have to Tame some of
the
new ones before we leave. Barbisaur and Pidgy sent me an e-mail stating
they're going elsewhere. The ones I'm going with are:"
[Misty, Selkie (Alpha); 2: CharAmanda; 3: Ka-D-Bra; 4: Joltina; 5: Umbrea;
6: Amachamp]
Misty opened her mouth to complain, then thought more about it. "You
know,
that isn't a bad grouping. Water, Fire, Psychic, Electric, Dark, and
a
Fighting type."
Ash nodded. He usually played it by instinct. Something told him that
the
Umbrea and the Amachop would be very useful.
Ranma frowned. It sounded like he was in, whether he liked it or not.
Oh
well, it'd be good to keep his own skills up. "Well, then, I guess
I'll go
with:"
[Nabiki, Cheshire (Alpha); 2: Usagi, Megami; 3: Kasumi, Griffon; 4:
Rei,
Angel; 5: Shampoo, Amazonchan; 6: Mareen]
"You got a Mareen?" Ash blinked, stopping from where he had been getting
a
couple of Stamina+ drinks from the vending machine. "Those have a reputation
for being fairly intelligent."
"Yeah, what's a Mareen?" Ranma asked. "I just went with the pokedex's
[Suggest] function for the sixth slot."
"Go Tame her and find out," suggested Nabiki, naughty smile in place.
As Ash went off to deal with his new harem members, Ranma went into
his room
and flipped the ball from one hand to the other, wondering exactly
what to
make of this new development. He was also still sorting out the speech
he'd
made last night.
He'd spoken at length, and he'd spoken from the heart. He just couldn't
remember *what* he'd said.
*Shoom!*
The "Mareen" turned out to be one of those blue-furred mousegirls, like
he'd
seen earlier at the Tendo Ranch. Except that this one just had a blue
mane
and the mousey ears and tail. A "Near Human" by the definition. Except
that
one of her bangs was silver in color and she had an elaborate earring
in one
ear, and was wearing a denim pair of cutoff shorts, a bikini top, and
a pair
of silver studded bracers.
"Hi there! Name's Rain," proclaimed the mousegirl.
----------
Aldus Stroak sat back and watched his Ingenue fixing tea for a moment.
"All
this time I thought Gendo Giovanni was paranoid."
Mary Anne glanced back. "And now?"
"I have doubts," the Professor flicked a few buttons, bringing screens
up.
If a League official happened to find out he was telling Mary Anne
such
things, he'd be able to point out that he had a habit of talking the
more
thorny puzzles out loud. "Look at these."
"Are these related? I don't see the connection," Mary Anne said after
studying the details briefly.
"You're not supposed to. One of my colleagues - you remember Yoshinori
Kitase don't you? Yoshi sent me this while he was trying to determine
Mephaesta's current base of operations. What he eventually determined
was
that there was more than one group out there trying to remain hidden."
Professor Stroak tapped the screen displaying an attack on a manufacturing
facility. "Most of these look like normal wild pokegirl attacks, but
there
are discrepencies. In some cases a wandering Tamer with a Psychic or
Dark
type reports that their pokegirl reports some kind of outside control
in
use. Also the breeds in the attack are those not listed as primarily
or
strictly Hetero. Now look at the fatalities inflicted broken down by
Type."
"That many humans die in random attacks?" Mary Anne was aghast. "Why
are the
numbers of Psychic types so high?"
"Now look at how many places children gather are part of the attacks,"
the
Professor said, bringing up a bar chart. "Hospitals, daycare centers,
schools. The *male* children are butchered. The females turn up missing
and
are presumed dead."
"...but that isn't normal either," Mary Anne remarked. "It's instinct
on
most pokegirl breeds to protect and nurture children no matter what
species."
"If there *is* a hidden city of Psi-Dykes planning genocide, I would
expect
them to operate in just such a manner." The Professor made a sweeping
gesture. "Even if they strive for being self-contained, they would
still
occasionally need supplies they couldn't manufacture themselves. Using
controlled or dominated pokegirls of other types to throw suspicion
off,
picking off specifically *known* Psychic pokegirls at their target
locations
to cut down on any psychic defenses or remove the psychic duel, and
recruiting human girls as 'petslaves' while exterminating males. By
trashing
the area as thoroughly as Trauma Team ever did, what little they steal
would
be largely overlooked. In the meantime they gather power and prepare
for the
destruction of the human species."
"How come this hasn't hit the news?" Mary Anne wasn't complaining. If
Gendo
turned out to be correct, and this *was* evidence that his "hidden
city of
Psi-Dykes" were reality, then the current growth of pro-pokegirl sentiment
could easily become a frightened human race trying to find and end
the
threat. She knew, as did most literate pokegirls, that the lynchings
following Mao's Rebellion had not been motivated by hate - but by fear.
Scared humans could be very very dangerous. As she was a Thresholder,
she
had been human once, and knew darn well how she would have reacted
to having
her children butchered for meat in their cribs. And that was exactly
what
she was looking at.
"First, this is hidden amongst dozens of reports of other apparently
legit
attacks. Second, as long as they are trying to remain hidden - they
aren't
as effective as they could be." Professor Stroak sighed and clicked
the
reports off. An alarm began flashing. "Hmmm? Some sort of breaking
news in
Viridick?"
----------
Six hours of Taming sessions had been followed by a set of teleports.
Ash's new Ka-D-Bra, a Thresholder named Sabrina, could do a teleport
from
Dogpatch to Viridian quite easily despite the distaste most pokegirls
had
for entering one of the three worst cities to be a pokegirl. To make
it
easier, Ash and Ranma had pokeballed everyone for the trip.
That *others* had availed themselves of similar tactics had come as
a
surprise. People were just getting to introducing themselves when an
explosion had announced that they might be best putting off such things
altogether.
That the group didn't remain together was hardly surprising. What amazed
Ranma to some extent was the amount of savagery these pokegirls were
capable
of in combat with others of their kind.
That apparently some of the defenders were known to some of the attackers,
and vice versa, was also surprising. Known, but apparently liked was
not an
option.
To Ash it was almost as if this were the end of some fantasy novel,
with all
the rivalries developed through the course of the story coming together
during this last great battle. No, make that several entirely different
novels. The problem, the Tamer decided, was that he had missed several
chapters of Ranma's and hadn't read anyone else's at all.
-------
Even the Very Near Human pokegirls were different from being human.
No
matter how closely they resembled a human, the brain chemistry and
structure
were different. Humans mainly drew strength from themselves and confident
in
their own successes. Pokegirls drew their strength from their Master
and
confidence pretty much from the same source.
They also, even the Very Near Humans, could act civilized and human
most of
the time but had certain conditions where all the civility evaporated
and it
was hard for those watching to remember that this was their cute and
cuddly
Kitten.
Andrew Norris had been quite familiar with Kimiko's abilities in combat.
They'd been part of a guard force for years, and Kimiko had trained
extensively in combat. Only by training to the point where the moves
would
be instinctual, hard-wired into the brain, could a pokegirl use those
moves
in *this* kind of combat.
"So you're working for Giovanni, I should have known," Andrew didn't
reach
for the old fashioned gun at his hip. This warehouse was filled with
crates,
making this a natural battleground for settling this mess. "Vipers
gather
together after all."
"What?!" His opponent looked puzzled as she shouted across at him.
In between the two was a catfight. Not like a human "catfight" between
two
women with nail scratches and hair pulling. Kimiko had found her greatest
rival/foe Asura. Asura had found Kimiko. Trying to seperate the two
right
now would require water cannon and a healthy disregard for one's own
bodily
integrity. There were no words or insults exchanged, merely punches
and
kicks and bites and scratches that were attempts to seriously maim
or kill
the opponent. The howls and hisses and snarling was loud enough that
the two
humans couldn't even exchange unpleasantries.
"That little mess in San Bandito - it's payback time!" Andrew drew his
weapon and leapt behind the boxes.
Jago drew his sawed-off shotgun. "You and your little pussy might have
survived my last ambush, but now you die!"
(Bang)
Andrew smiled. "Koishi. Here, girl!"
The Titmouse had been born Feral, and so couldn't speak, but she squeaked
and dropped the gun as she leapt and ran over to her Master. Nasty
bad had
threatened Master. Koishi good girl.
Andrew peeked over the crates to see where Jago was sprawled out. Everyone
tended to discount Titmice, particularly ones that had been born Feral
and
therefore didn't get the hang of speaking or wearing much in the way
of
clothes. Forgetting that they could and did learn how to operate simple
machines. Like washing machines. Or guns for that matter.
Koishi squealed again in pleasure as Master scratched her behind one ear.
It took another five minutes before an exhausted Kimiko finished beating
Asura nearly to the status of throw rug, but without her Master it
had
become inevitable.
--------
Hans and Trixie reached a railing and looked down. "Shit," said Hans
after
it registered what he was looking at.
Trixie didn't say anything, just narrowed her eyes.
Hans ran his hands over the surface of the vault. "This has got to be
where
their main treasure is, but it's got so many layers of armor we'll
never get
through it."
"Leave it," said Trixie, turning around and heading back the way they
had
come.
"Leave it? But..."
"Leave it," repeated Trixie, enforcing her words slightly with a Compulsion.
Maybe it was time for Hans to "retire." She knew darn well what was
behind
those layers of steel and glass and liquid nitrogen and titanium. Only
a
thin psi-probe had penetrated those levels but it had been enough.
Of the Legendary pokegirls, three hadn't even looked remotely human
or even
female. One of *them* was behind all the layers of security. Without
the
security protocols, opening the vault wasn't likely and probably fatal
for
the opener. Another moment's thought and she briefly went back to apply
a
timed explosive to a liquid nitrogen pump. One hour to clear out, then
maybe
the Legendary would stir and begin to wake. A day or two and Trixie
could be
far enough away that the resulting destruction through human occupied
areas
would be a pleasent diversion and not a personal threat.
Hans had that confused look on his face again. Trixie simply walked
past
him, taking the stairs to the next level and ignoring the blasted ruins
of
doors. "Come on. We've got to loot this place and be gone. There's
genetic
samples over here that should make a fair profit in Crescent and Orange.
I'm
going to download this data over here, it ought to be even more lucrative."
Following her, Hans watched Trixie for a moment before the confusion
cleared. "Right. Then we trash their computers and make sure we've
got the
only copies. What about the kid in the tube?"
Trixie looked over at the slumbering form in the tube. "Some kind of
medical
experiment? Download the data and we'll trash the gizmos on the way
out.
Trauma Team don't take prisoners."
"'Trauma Team' huh? I got something to 'discuss' with you."
The unfamiliar voice caused both Hans and Trixie to aim weapons and fire.
Ranma ducked, dodged, and wondered if maybe he should have struck first
and
THEN announced his presence.
--------
"Moriarity," growled Holmes.
"Holmes. You have this annoying tendency to show up where you are neither
wanted nor needed." The Tamer crimelord snapped his fingers, releasing
his
hench-pokegirls. "I think we'll finish this once and for all between
us."
"Careful, Holmes," said Jane "Doc" Watson. The Sorceress began constructing
a Shield. "This bloke has more tricks up his sleeve than a Miss Army
knife."
-------
Ami impulsively grabbed her Tamer's head with both hands and drew him
for a
fierce kiss and grope. While Ryo was still staggered from that, Lita
did the
same.
Ryo shook his head to try and clear it.
"Squeak squeakee squeak?" Ami pointed at the bared wires of the door
she was
working on. She hoped that her speech centers would reset soon. This
was
getting ridiculous.
"Pee peeka peekabu peeka," said Lita. She reached out with two fingers
and
applied current.
All along the cellblock, doors started to pop open.
------
Ash considered his options. Misty couldn't run that fast and was clumsier
on
land than in the water. His Ka-D-Bra, Sabrina, would still be winded
from
the Mass Teleport and what reserves she did have might be needed for
a fast
escape. Three pokeballs were selected and released.
"Joltina!" The Joltina looked around. She had once had another name,
but the
Threshold girl she'd been had chosen to erase that identity rather
than
remember being human and suffer for her lost humanity.
"Who ya want me to kill?" The Umbrea named Diana was completely different.
She'd always been a tough girl who'd known there was a chance she could
end
up going through Threshold. When *she* was released, she immediately
chambered and prepared for a fight. Though cute and slender, the Dark
Type
retained much of her original personality and her main love was still
motorcycles.
"Unnn," the Amachamp said as she crouched down to avoid hitting her
head on
the ceiling. Athena was currently dealing with system shock from her
Taming.
She'd originally wanted to be in the police, and still hoped to be
now that
she'd gone through Threshold. She'd attached herself to Ash in the
hopes of
eventually being traded to a law officer when she'd heard that Ash
actually
looked out for his pokegirls.
"We need this door open," began Ash with a gesture towards the hatchway.
He
could tell from the occasional flash that Ranma was in trouble.
"Unnn," agreed Athena. Four hands grasped parts of the bank vault style
door. She tugged and the door slowly peeled open under her strength.
Ash added a fourth.
"Char char!" CharAmanda wondered why they couldn't just go out and have
a
nice hot marathon session with their Master. This place didn't seem
very
pleasant at all.
"Okay, we need to help Ranma," said Ash. "Everyone ready?"
Particle beam blasts sliced through the open hatchway.
"I'd say not," responded Diana.
--------
It had only been a few stories told by pet owners previously, and who
listened to *them* anyway?
A Second Level Bond meant that the pleasures of the human and the pokegirl
partners were shared. Their pains too. With those who "owned" pets
- this
meant a relationship that could combine elements of heaven and hell.
Not all
pokegirls or humans were nice after all.
Emotions, feelings, pleasure (particularly with physical contact between
the
two), and other physical sensations. Rare, as the conditions for the
Bond
were not commonly met, even in the case of an affectionate Kitten fancier
and his Kitten.
Certain Security personnel had experienced something else, but kept
it in
reserve. Their own "little secret" to give them an edge in certain
circumstances.
Ranma landed to the left of the two terrorists, rolling behind some
machinery to land in the Swallow Takes Flight stance.
Shampoo landed to the right of the two terrorists, rolling behind some
machinery to land in the Swallow Takes Flight stance.
(Leap, flip, dodge past the particle beam shot, land, twist, dodge,
assume
the Striking Cobra stance.)
Hans stared as he realized that the Amazonchan and this Tamer were moving
in
perfect synchronization. It threw his aim off.
Trixie fired repeatedly, but all she managed to do was hit the control
panel.
Taro, held helpless within the tube, silently screamed as the mechanisms
to
give him his latest enhancement began going completely out of control.
Not
that anyone was paying any attention to him in the current battle.
The
forcefields and drugs all in a sensor loop precisely calculated to
keep Taro
from injuring himself or the facilities.
Unlike Ranma and Shampoo, Nabiki had no formal martial arts training.
Kasumi
was in her pokeball, her wings too unwieldy in these circumstances.
Rei had
some training in fighting, but the Angel had little practical experience
with her new form and was likewise at a disadvantage in narrow tunnels
now
until she could learn to shapeshift to wingless form. Rain, on the
other
hand, was a little defenseless mousegirl.
"Hyaaaaaa!" (THWAK!)
Rain headbutted Hans while the Trauma Team member was trying to get
a bead
on Ranma. Trixie turned to blast the annoying watermouse into gore.
"Where the hell am I now?!"
"Akane think this look like our cue. Ahem.
To get even with these lousy imitations.
Who get into violence and not fornications.
To promote the joys of regular sex,
Including muscle tone and increased flex,
Akane!"
"Akane, if you think I'm going along with this..." Ryouga looked at
the
puppy-dog-eye expression his Vixxen was giving him. (Sigh). "...Ryouga..."
"Team Hibiki here to win the fight,
And get our cameo in the spotlight!"
Akane held that pose for a moment before giggling and bouncing. "Yeah!"
Nabiki stared for a moment at Akane "Death To Perverts" - not only had
she
become a Vixxen, but she had apparently gotten over that problem with
seeing
all Tamers as perverts as something to be stomped. Well, it was bloody
well
about time!
Trixie responded by throwing a grenade.
-------
While Ranma and Ash and Ryouga faced Trauma Team, others were having
their
own confrontations.
"Mustn't run away. Mustn't run away. Mustn't run away. Mustn't run away."
That it was a Domina with red hair saying this was different at least.
Shinji was amused at Asuka's reaction. Gesturing to the twenty Rei Ayanami
to follow him, he guessed that things had just gotten a lot more
interesting. His hand went down to his belt. He'd captured them and
he
didn't even know what they were, just names: Misato and Ritsuko and
Maya. He
had a feeling that tonight he wouldn't get much sleep at all.
-----
"You're a louse, Roger Smith."
"I usually hear that from *human* women, Dorothy."(1)
-----
"Ryo!" Umibozu unlimbered a .50 caliber machinegun and grinned evilly.
Ryo Saeba leapt to the side. His Tomboy, Kaori, eeped and ducked.
The Tamer known as Red Pegasus looked very startled as his thrown pokeball
was the only thing in the corridor that was not shot to pieces. Of
course,
as he was in that very corridor, he didn't stay startled for long.
Mikki, the Kitten belonging to the big bald guy Umibozu, was merely
glad
that she'd disabled the security cameras. Enough trouble found its
way to
their doorsteps anyway.(2)
-----
Tidus nodded and made a gesture.
Sliding slightly along the wall, Rikku reached into her pouch to pull
out a
few marbles, then tossed them through the open doorway. A moment later
and
she'd launched herself, kicked off the doorframe, and landed lightly
inside
the room.
"So... a pretty little Amazonchan tries to beard me in my lair." Seymour
smirked. "I'm not the only one who thought this would be a good opportunity
to take a few things."
"I'm not an Amazonchan," said Rikku, "and actually..."
"She's not alone," said the Sorceress Lulu.
"We'll fight you," agreed Yuna.
"...AND kick your sorry behind," finished Tidus as he joined his pokegirls.
Seymour looked over the four. "Interesting, a halfgrown Wreckball coach
and
three of his players. A Kitten, a Sorceress, and a Megami. Against
me? You
must wish to die young. Still, you've saved me the trouble of hunting
you
down later. Shiva, Battledancer, Growlie, Lamia, come forth and destroy
my
enemies!"(3)
------
"So, it's you. That writer of pointless crappy fics," declared the liberal,
"at last I can eliminate you from the food chain for the greater glory
of
the Goddess!"
"Ah, you must be that annoying critic whose own works fail to live up
to
your own standards," the other responded. "One of those Knights. Well,
since
this *does* seem to have devolved to a lot of people settling personal
grudges..."
"There you go again with those trailing sentences! By Bill Clinton,
you
shall be punished!" The liberal Knight smirked. "Sparki! Tomboy! I
screw
you!"
"Because it must be so," agreed the blatant self insert. Taking two
pokeballs he released his collared pair which turned out to be a Titmouse
and an Elf.
"Hah, such common lowpower types are perfectly fitting for a common
lowpower
intellect like yourself," said the Knight. "Your death will not be
easy,
your suffering long..."
(BLAM!) (BLAM!) (BLAM!)
"...gun control... ...socialized medicine... ...blatantly OOC..." The
Knight
slumped, clutching his wounds. "...colors outside the lines (gasp)...
doesn't take criticism... no respect for the canon... damn conservative
misogynist... homophobic... swine..."
Patting the Titmouse on the head to calm her (she didn't like loud noises
either), the pet owner pokeballed the two wounded pokegirls so they
wouldn't
die. Maybe he could trade them for something useful. (4)
-----
Ed made a gesture towards his Catgirl and his Goth. The sounds of gunfire
and explosions seemed to be going off all around him. "I think it's
time to
make our retreat."
"Yes, darlink," said the Goth in a thick false Russian accent. "Ve haff
ze
loot, ja?"
"Natasha, you have *got* to stop watching those late night videos."
-----
Ranma had watched the waterjet throw the grenade past some devices and
down
a stairwell.
Trauma Team had died in the resulting hail of shrapnel. What Ranma was
still
unclear on was why the two looked so surprised when the ceiling had
started
caving in.
Everyone had recalled their pokegirls and Ash had released Sabrina for
another Teleport.
Rei had gotten her revenge. Some of the Tamers lingered too long and
had
gotten arrested, but the news reports about secret forbidden experiments
were likely to take the thrust of the news time.
"So, uhm, what do we do now?" Ranma asked, not unreasonably.
"I think that the Johto League looks like a good destination for now,"
Misty
observed. "I don't think I want to be anywhere near Viridick for awhile."
"I see your point," agreed Ranma. "I don't want to go too far in case
some
lead turns up on a way home."
"Guess this is it then," said Ash after a moment. "Just you watch. I'll
bring honor to our family by entering the Johto League Championship
and
winning it!"
Ranma nodded at that. Not that he thought Ash had any better chance,
but
honor was important. Still... "How about we let our pokegirls rest
up, then
you and me can have a quick battle? I think I'm getting the hang of
this
stuff."
"Sounds good to me!" Ash said. Family. It was a nice thing to have family.
---------
Doctor Deviance looked over the reports and frowned.
On seeing this, his Milktit fixed him a nice glass of warm milk. The
Doctor
was going to get an ulcer at this rate, and as his head nurse it was
her
responsibility to take care of him.
"The attack in Viridick is largely being attributed to Trauma Team,"
said
the Doctor. "Look here though - Gendo places the blame for the genetic
experiments and suspected criminal activities on the head of his
second-in-command. A Doctor Hojo Mojo. Claims he had no knowledge of
such
things and can prove he was elsewhere."
"Well, he *does* hate pokegirls, so creating different or more powerful
ones
seems Out Of Character," said the Milktit.
"Not hate, fear. Entirely different. Still, if he is *right* and there
*is*
a hidden conspiracy of pokegirls..." Deviance shook his head. "Hidden
cities, enhanced pokegirls that don't require Taming or emotional bonds
with
humans, plots to exterminate the human race. All terribly unlikely
don't you
think?"
The Milktit put the strangle cord back where it was normally hidden.
"As you
say, Doctor. There is no evidence of such things. It must be merely
the
imaginings of people with too much time on their hands."
----------
Six months later, word came back that Ash had picked up a Milktit named
Whitney. Also a Spinnertit, a Phoenix, and a Nightowl. He was apparently
going to participate in the Johto League Championship as he had promised.
Also had been the awarding of one Ranma Saotome a Breeder's License
after
one of his pokegirls had filled out a few forms too many.
Fallout continued from the raid in Viridick, Gendo Giovanni having been
set
back considerably in many ways by the event. His power was severely
cut, his
influence more so, and he still had Moo Two to deal with.
Trauma Team was gone. Mephaesta's group and increased pirate raids picked
up
the slack.
Mineko & The Pussycats started preparing for their retirement.
A pet owner/accountant/part time writer opened a bookstore in Johto.
After
trading a Tomboy and a CharMelons for a Kitten and an Ingenue, his
Titmouse
evolved to Mousewife and his Elf somehow managed to evolve to Grandelf.
He
found an Umbrea and an Espea later on, but those were entirely different
adventures that he'd found himself mixed up in. Dragged kicking and
screaming all the way.
Andrew Norris managed to evolve his Titmouse to Mousewife and had to
deal
with an even more complicated home life when he found at that one of
the
hysterical prisoners he'd freed from beneath Viridick had been an Amazonchan
who was one of three identical triplets.
Ryouga Hibiki and his Alpha Akane went on a great adventure that spanned
three continents and eventually had him meet again with the plane-wandering
version of Ranma Saotome, only to discover that the one he really should
have been keeping an eye on was that Cheshire.
An Elven Preserve, similar to the Icemaiden and Amazonchan versions,
was
proposed and tentatively given sanction within the Indigo Plateau -
opposition to it suddenly failing as several allies of Gendo Giovanni
sent
the message that their alliances were shifting. Elves, Pixies, and
similar
groups were allowed in. Though relatively small to the other two Preserves,
the gesture was seen as having importance far beyond square mileage.
And seven and a half months after entering the pokegirl world, Professor
Stroak sent Ranma a note that he was ready.
-----------
Ranma looked at the metallic framework with mixed feelings. On the plus
side, it was a way home- something he'd been working towards for over
a
year. On the minus side, the girls would *never* be able to fit in,
so he
had to say goodbye now.
"Remember Ranma, according to the math, this will not only take you
back to
your homeworld, but within three point seven minutes of your original
departure." The Professor continued to adjust settings.
Ranma turned to his pokegirls, who were looking various sades of miserable.
"Well, this is it. I'm sorry, but you'd never be able to fit in or
blend in
with normal society. And there are no Pokecenters, no way of repairing
pokeballs, and no League. Professor Stroak here will be able to keep
all of
you in your pokeballs and find new Tamers for you or find you work
around
here."
His little speech didn't help. Miserable went to crying.
Ranma nodded to Professor Stroak and stepped in front of the framework.
As
the Professor threw the switch an all-too familiar tunnel shape appeared,
stretching into infinity.
Taking a deep breath, Ranma stepped into the tunnel, not daring to look
back
at his pokegirls. One more look at their expressions and his resolve
would
crumble. This was for the best for them too.
Ranma shot out of the far end of the tunnel, arms and legs windmilling
briefly before slamming into the ground.
He looked around. There was the stone he had stood on, or at least the
bottom third of it. There were his tracks from over a year ago, looking
freshly made.
Odd, how much he'd gone through in a year's time. Plucking at his clothes,
Ranma wondered if the tough but serviceable clothing he'd picked up
would
stand out too much. Would he be able to forget his experiences, and
the
people he'd never see again? Would he be able to pick up where he'd
left
off, or had he changed too much?
"aaaaAAAAAA" *THWAM!*
"eeeeeeep!" *THWAM!*
"Cannonball!" *THWUD!*
"Oops!" *THWAM!"
"Aaaaaaa!" *THWAM!* *THWUD!* *THUMP!*
*Fssshhhhhhh PUM!*
Ranma glanced up to see the tunnel close away to nothing, then sighed
at the
weight on his back.
"Master?"
Ranma wondered how he was going to explain *this* to his Oyaji?
On second thought, who cared?

SEELE: A hardline anti-pokegirl rights political group that started
gaining
power in the early 200s. Currently in control of: Fight City, Viridian,
Prussian, Cobalt, Dusk, Mauve, and Amethyst. They are also fairly regulative
of humans, requiring travel visas at the least. "Control = Safety"
is one of
their slogans.
PARITY: The political group that is most often referred to as "conservative"
in Indigo League politics. This group is also known as the Rights party.
The
idea that pokegirls and humans form a symbiotic partnership is one
held by
the Parity group. Joketsuzoku, Umbra, and Midnight all hold this view.
The
vast majority of Indigo League areas hold a viewpoint between the two.
Notes on Type:
VERY NEAR HUMAN - This pokegirl can pass for human under casual scrutiny
or
with minimal preparation. Megami, Ingenue, and Sorceress are all Very
Near
Human. Usually the only things obvious are skin, hair, eye, nail colorations
being naturally of an odd color or facial markings or slight physical
features being off. Eyes that usually seem a bit large for the head
are
another giveaway. Very Near Humans can take many human medications
and eat
most human foods without ill effect. Other than the usual qualities
of
dependence and desire to be part of a group, most Very Near Humans
can
understand humans fairly well and fit into human society without much
effort.
NEAR HUMAN - While still mainly human in appearance, this sort of pokegirl
has some distinguishing features that are difficult to conceal. Kittens
have
feline ears and a tail as well as nails that are thicker and reinforced
by
bracing line of harder material. Selkie have a layer of webbing between
their fingers and toes, nictating membranes on their eyes, and lightly
pointed ears. Angels have large wings. In all cases they are able to
take
aspirin and a few other simple human medications and eat most human
foods to
some degree. Most Near Humans can understand human behavior patterns
and
adapt their behavior to fit in, though every so often they'll be completely
at a loss or some odd (by human standards) behavior will take precedence.
Kittens, for example, can be counted on to act somewhat feline but
mainly
will have no problem working a number of fairly complex jobs as long
as no
one throws a catnip mouse at them.
NOT VERY NEAR HUMAN - A disputed category. While having *some* human
features, the pokegirl is not likely to be mistaken for human except
at
night in a deep fog and wearing hat and trenchcoat. This sort of pokegirl
has features or extra limbs or size problems that do not fit even the
most
loose definition of human. Often their thought patterns are considered
odd
by human standards and they are not suitable for complex jobs where
a set
result is required. It is not recommended that any human style medication
be
given the NVNH pokegirl, though they can eat most human foods without
too
much difficulty. Snorlasses, with their bulk, fur, and ursine features,
fit
into the Not Very Near Human category.
HUMANOID - They have the general human shape down, but there is no way
that
someone can pass off a Humanoid as a human no matter how much makeup
is
used. There is some dispute that Not Very Near Human should be lumped
into
this category. Humanoid pokegirls often have very different physiologies
-
both internal and external, and their mental architecture is usually
very
different. Humanoids can usually eat a number of human foods, but
medications should only be for pokegirls or breed-specific. Buzzbreast,
Quillara, and most Tigresses are Humanoid.
INHUMANOID - the chances of this pokegirl passing for human are even
less
than for a humanoid. The body shape is not even remotely like a human
one,
either being centauroid or something completely alien like Parastyte.
The
mental facilities are also very nonhuman and this kind of pokegirl
is
*never* the result of Threshold on a human girl. If human food can
be fed to
this pokegirl, it will only be a very narrow range. Human medication
should
*never* be used on an Inhumanoid, sickness or bizarre side effects
are
guaranteed to result. Certain centauroids and the like, if Domesticated,
can
understand and follow human laws and customs. Training a Feral to do
the
same only manages to frustrate everyone involved as the so-called "Mowgli
Syndrome" is too much to overcome even with psychic help.
BUZZBREAST, the swarming pokegirl
TYPE: Humanoid Anthropomorph (insectile)
ELEMENT: Bug/Poison
FREQUENCY: Common
DIET: Herbivore
ROLE: Primary attacker
LIBIDO: Seasonal
STRONG VS: Grass, Psychic, Bug
WEAK VS: Ghost, Flying, Fighting, Fire, Poison, Ground, Steel
ATTACKS: Poison Sting, Agility, Mimic Poison, Fury Attack
ENHANCEMENTS: Exo and endo skeleton, anthropomorph: bee, high metabolism,
living chemical factory
EVOLVES: Buzzqueen - though this only occurs in the wild when attended
by a
full hive
Buzzbreast were one of the more elite pokegirls created during Sukebe's
war.
Also the most successful in the wild. Though she looks mammallian,
her
internal structure is more insectile - this also fits her mental structure
as she tends to think of her Tamer as her Queen and the Tamer's harem
as a
hive. Buzzbreast in the wild are considered a Class 4 Hazard, during
mating
season this is raised to Class 3.
_In the wild, Buzzbreast reproduce by finding a pokegirl or human that
is
alone or who has wandered too close to the hive, stinging them repeatedly,
then bringing them back to the Buzzqueen to form a coccoon around her.
In
the matter of a few weeks, a new drone hatches from the coccoon to
join the
Hive.
_Trained or domesticated Buzzbreast are considered the most valuable.
Not
only are they able to override their Hive instincts, their ability
to
synthesize different venoms or poison attacks they have witnessed makes
them
quite attractive to a variety of persons. Normally a Buzzbreast can
memorize
up to four such attacks, it requiring a full day to stop manufacturing
a
poison and develop another.

ATTACKS: you've got to be kidding
ENHANCEMENTS: Very Near Human, enhanced healing rate, low feral

The Yvette series were the third League designed pokegirls following
available data left from Sukebe's War. Flush with success from the
Joys and
Jennies, the Joys created to operate League centers and the Jennies
to
enforce laws, the Yvette series was designed to be the logical next
step -
cleaners, streetsweepers, and maintenence personnel. As such, they
were an
utter failure. There was not one thing or quality the Yvette series
could do
better and they had an unfortunate tendency to faint at the sign of
blood -
making them pathetic combatants. Maid Yvette are all named Yvette and
identical physically and mentally. Evolving to the next stage gives
them
more individuality.
MOUSEWIFE, "never underestimate the power of a Johto League mousewife"
TYPE: Anthropomorph, Near Human
ELEMENT: Normal
FREQUENCY: Uncommon
DIET: human style foods, cheese has special effects
ROLE: most often a domestic "pet", eagerly sought by many for noncombat
tasks
LIBIDO: Normal
STRONG VS: Grimy, Muk, Poison
WEAK VS: Scary looking pokegirls
ATTACKS: Tackle, Dodge, Scratch, Kick, Agility, Cheer Up
ENHANCEMENTS: Near to Very Near Human Anthropomorph (mouse), good
nightvision, extremely good digestive system, enhanced intuition, high
range
and sensitivity hearing, sensitivity of sense of touch is x8 human,
enhanced
dexterity and coordination (x4)
EVOLVES: None, evolved form of Titmouse
While the Titmouse is a common pokegirl that is often traded and thought
of
as useless by most League officials, the occasional one evolving to
Mousewife is treasured by Breeders, pet owners, and a variety of others.
When evolving, the four foot tall Titmouse loses much of her fur, the
muzzle, and other animalistic qualities as she grows to an average
height of
five feet even. She becomes considerably more intelligent but also
more
docile towards authority figures.
Mousewife is a fastidiously clean, domestically oriented pokegirl.
Even the
most tomboyish and clumsy Titmouse becomes more graceful and suddenly
"gets"
the concept of housework, becoming proficient in short order.
Threatening a Mousewife will quickly intimidate one unless her "lair"
or
children or Tamer (especially if any sort of affectionate bond exists)
is
also threatened. At which point it has been reported that even Psi-dykes
and
Tomboys have been known to back away from the terror that is an enraged
Mousewife. This is caused by a form of battlerage that slumbers within
the
quiet and gentle domestic's heart, tapping into latent psychic potential
and
combining it with an adrenal state. This is not generally known beyond
the
simple catchphrase that has circulated for over one hundred years:
"never
underestimate the power of a Johto League Mousewife."
When a Mousewife is not in this battlemode, they tend to define terms
like
"sweet and gentle" or "quiet and demure" - this is not an act or pretense.
A
Mousewife who has found a Tamer who responds to her behavior with
thoughtfulness or open affection is sometimes prone to daydreaming,
but the
typical Mousewife in this situation is forgiven such faults.
