walking by.  The Chinese man did his best to keep from spilling his

Ryôga sighed in frustration as his transformation was forced on him once 
again.  With ease born of practice he began scooping things up in his

was obviously quite unusual for all the people around as they watched

Most of the bystanders were too nonplussed by the strange look of the 
piglet pulling on the backpack to react.  The majority of the busy 
people in this market were too busy to even notice him, anyway, focusing 
on inspecting the merchandise or haggling with the vendors.

Unfortunately for Ryôga, one of them proved to be bolder.  Despite his 
usual martial-artist danger sense, he was surprised when a hand grabbed 
him by the bandanna and lifted him from the floor.

Ryôga was brought up until he was level with the wrinkled face of an old 
man.  He had the short beard, wooden pipe, small black hat and 
traditional clothes of the elderly Chinese master you could see in 
plenty of kung fu movies.

He began mumbling in Chinese, as if addressing the piglet, though he was 
most probably just talking to himself.  Ryôga's spotty knowledge of the 
Chinese language allowed him to understand a few words, like "pet", 
"trained" and "where are you from?..." or rather "who do you belong to?" 
And maybe also the word "recompense".

Shrugging, the old man also picked up the backpack -- momentarily 
grunting and plowing when he discovered its weight.  Then, he walked 
with his discovery toward a nearby house.

Ryôga grunted and squirmed as he tried to escape the old man's grip.  
But he had no leverage and the man had him by his bandana.  His 
knowledge of Chinese let him hear at least part of the man's mumblings.

On one hand, it was good that he wasn't going to be cooked into a 
dinner; on the other hand, it meant he'd have to work harder to get some 
hot water.

Ryôga looked around the house, it was surprisingly bigger then some of 
the other houses but not by a significant amount.  He then turned to 
look at the man who was holding him.  Ryôga couldn't help but wonder 
what was in store for him next.

negligible effort.  He did a few short Tai Chi moves to make some
